In April 2019, the Law Society of Ontario will hold an election to determine its next group of Benchers.
In total, there are 40 Benchers throughout the province. 20 Benchers are taken from the City of Toronto, with the remaining 20 from the rest of Ontario in various regions. These Benchers play an essential part in regulation of lawyers’ conduct, rules, and legal services in the Province.
Since lawyers in the Province of Ontario are a self-regulated profession, the Bencher Elections are the means we select those representatives to protect the public interest.
